Niyi Osundare is a Nigerian writer, playwright, poet, novelist, essayist and broadcaster. He was born in Owerri, Nigeria in 1956. He attended St John's College, Zaria for his secondary education. He went on to study Theatre Arts at the University of Nigeria Nsukka where he obtained a first class honours degree in acting
He obtained a master's degree in English Literature from the University of Lagos. Osundare has published four novels to date: The Book of Memory (1998), Masks (2000), A Nightingale Sang in Lagos (2001) and God's Great Old Woman (2005).
